#BookReview ; Tweenache In The Time Of Hashtags by Judy Balan

#Tweenache101: First, there's PMS (it's real and it's painful and can someone please make it stop?). Second, there's #The Boy. Yes, that's right. The BOY. And third, there's a #New Dad in the picture. Actually, he's an old dad, but if Nina's never met him before, he totally counts as new, right? And worst of all, there's the #Nerd Wars. There's a new nerd in the classroom and she might be even nerdier than Nina.
This. Can't. Be. Good.
From the author of How To Stop Your Grownup From Making Bad Decisions, here's another hilarious season in the life of #NinaThePhilosopher.

Tweenache In The Time Of Hashtags is the second book in Nina The Philosopher Series by Judy Balan. The description of the author on online forums is that she is an overthinking parent of an overthinking child. This description itself of the author intrigued me to another level for reasons even I didn't understood at that time, so I started reading the book with great enthusiasm knowing that I haven't even read the first book How to Stop Your Grownup From Making Bad Decisions from Nina The Philosopher Series.

As the name of the series suggest the protagonist of the story is Nina, a 12 year old girl who is quite mature for her age but with her innocence intact & also hilarious. The story revolves around her life which includes her single mother, her elder sister Nikki, her mom’s childhood friend Ashwin Uncle, her grandparents, her friend Akaash & BLG *short for Bright Light God*.  In this book we get to know how Nina takes a step towards being a woman which includes both physical & emotional incidents.

When I started to read this book I was very excited about it but then on back of my mind I was doubtful too, I was sceptical whether it would turn out to be a children’s book but as I started to read it I got glued to it. Nina is like a long lost friend which we all desired for. The writing style is excellent & hilarious! The only thing which I want to say at the end is get ready for a LAUGH RIOT, you shouldn't miss this one!

#Spotlight ; Right Fit Wrong Shoe by Varsha Dixit

Right Fit Wrong Shoe
by
Varsha Dixit

Blurb
Right Fit Wrong Shoe, begins at a point where all love stories end. The tale weaves around Nandini and all that is important to her, with two contenders gunning for the top spot; Aditya Sarin and Sneha Verma.

Aditya Sarin, the man Nandini is madly in love with, yet compelled, for some unsolved reason to shun.  Aditya, on his part, in the past declared Nandini to be a ‘millennium bhehenji (conservative girl)’ and ‘lassi (yoghurt drink) in a wine glass’. Yet he fell for her  . . . hard! However, some mysterious episode caused the lovers to, acrimoniously, part.

Now, Aditya is back in Kanpur,  all his guns blazing (the real and the imagined), determined to devastate her life. Fortunately for the readers, and unfotunately for Aditya, Nandini is determined not to‘bite the dust’ oh so quietly. Wonder, in the battle royal, who wins or who loses it all?

Sneha Verma, the other contender, is Nandini’s BFF, that one friend who knows us better than we do. The one we trust more than Stayfree or Clearasil. Sneha maybe headstrong, hammer fisted and stern mouthed, but for Nandini, she will willingly stand in the path of imminent lightning bolt or a nasty tornado, even if it’s named Aditya Sarin. In standard X, Sneha took Nandini under her wing and that equation hasn't changed much. Sneha, a recent wife and even more recent mom, appears to be fighting some unknown demons of her own.

Right Fit Wrong Shoe, observes and opinionates the society, affected and amused. It fleetingly touches on issues; fleeting as watching discourses (courtesy Astha Channel), is trendier and quicker, than reading them.

The book is an AAA (anytime, anywhere, anyone) read. It promises to make your day better, and a bad one not any worse.

#BookReview ; Raakshas by Piyush Jha

What made him a serial killer?
Was he born with homicidal tendencies?
Did a harrowing childhood render him criminally insane?
The questions haunt, Additional Commissioner of Police, Maithili Prasad as she discovers the horrific murders across Mumbai. As she spearheads the greatest manhunt in Mumbai’s history, she’s determined to contain the reign of terror unleashed by the ruthless serial killer. But before that she must grapple with her personal demons that surface to plague her with self-doubt.
Just as it seems that Maithili has begun to understand the deep-rooted resentment that drives the serial killer, he turns around and makes her the object of his revenge. Will she emerge unscathed from this ordeal?
This thrilling narrative of a serial killer’s life and the unusual and challenging investigation to catch him, uncovers a chilling trail of unspeakable torment and cruelty—the tale of… Raakshas.

Raakshas : India’s No. 1 Serial Killer is the latest book of Piyush Jha which as the title suggests is about mysterious serial killings happening in Mumbai. The author is an acclaimed film director, ad filmmaker & author of bestselling crime fiction novels. Since it was my first book by Piyush Jha I was actually quite eager to read his work since I have heard good things about his previous novels.

The story is fast paced which is totally necessary in this kind of book & is about the anonymous unfortunate child who becomes a serial killer eventually, partly because of fate & partly because of his need for recognition in society. Not to forget the nail biting chase between him & Maithili Prasad, Additional Commissioner Police who has been given the responsibility to catch him. But in order to do so Maithili Prasad needs to look beyond her past & try to think like him but will she be able to catch this genius killer? While one would think that the name of the novel just signifies the deeds of the serial killer but you surely will be surprised when you get to its real significance! You need to get this book to know!

I have a theory that to make one interested in a book it should must have an eye-catching cover *along with good story ofcourse* & this novel surely makes an impact as soon as you look at its cover. The additional information about the psychology of serial killers & also the stories of some Indian gruesome serial killers makes it more intriguing. It’s a book which has hits & lows but surely will entertain you till the last.

Prologue ( A teaser)

J J School of Art, Mumbai.
Taking a charcoal pencil, Akash Saigal started drawing the wood-and-stone structure, popularly known as „Kipling Bungalow‟. He was sketching sitting on a bench on which, in another era, K K Hebbar, M F Husain, Syed Haider Raza, Sadanand Bakre, V S Gaitonde, even Dadasaheb Phalke had sat with their sketchbooks, sketching the house where the author of The Jungle Book was born.
Ganpat Gupte appeared along with two of his gang. Gupte was the nephew of a minister, or so he claimed, and had the arrogance that comes with power.
“Ae Akash, kae karto?”
Akash looked up at the trio and said, “Nothing much. Just a drawing.
“Okay. What is the day today?”
“I should have known.Tere ko blue shirt hai na?”
Akash didn‟t get the connection, but Gupte‟s chamchas laughed knowingly.
The three boys sang in unison, “Monday, blue shirt. Tuesday, black shirt. Wednesday, blue shirt. Thursday black shirt. Friday, blue shirt. Saturday, black shirt. Sunday...laundry!”
If Akash was hurt, he didn‟t show it. He laughed sheepishly and continued sketching the bungalow.
But he would never forget this.

About the Author

Mohan Deep, is an Indian author, painter and Feng Shui Master. Mohan Deep is the author of ‘The Mystery and Mystique of Madhubala’ (1996), ‘It’s My Life’ (Novel) (1997), ‘Simply Scandalous: Meena Kumari’ (1998), ‘Eurekha!’ – an unauthorized biography of Rekha. (1999), ‘Four Options’ (2000), ‘Feng Shui for the Bold & Beautiful, the Rich and Famous’ (2001) and ‘Nehru and the Tantrik Woman’ (2002). After a sabbatical of a decade, during which he touched upon the lifves of people as a Feng Shui Master, he is back with The Five Foolish Virgins, a book of fiction, to be launched in April 2013. Mohan Deep is arguably the only Indian author to write what is often described as controversial, unauthorized star biographies in India. Columnist-journalist and former editor of 'Illustrated Weekly of India', Khushwant Singh called him 'a truly gifted gossip writer'. “The maverick writer”, like columnist-reviewer-poetess Tara Patel described him has also been called William Goldman of Bollywood’s stars (By Behram Contractor, the Editor of Afternoon Despatch & Courier) (Source) Kitty Kelly of India (By R K Bajaj, the Editor of ‘The Daily’). Interestingly, almost every book he has wrote/penned has invited controversies for its bold content.

#BookReview ; S.O.A.R by Abir Mukherjee

Frustrated with their current jobs, Uday, Adhyayan, and Rajasekaran team up to start an innovative business, non-existent in India until then. Ignoring all pragmatic aspects of life, they chase their dreams with immense pleasure. However, their journey is no cakewalk, as they confront financial crisis and rejections soon. Uday plays a business trick to triumph over that uninfluenced market; it works initially, but soon boomerangs, blowing the team apart. The police arrests Uday accusing him of illegal activity by his organization. Were there any blemishes in their plan or was it just a typical Indian market, reluctant to accept an un-experimented concept? Will they be successful in implementing their innovation, staking their hard earned money, stable jobs, relationships, and life 'S.O.A.R is the story of chasing a dream, quandary between desire and responsibility, friendship and love. Join the gutsy journey of three young entrepreneurs.

S.O.A.R - “Success Over Adversity Reigns”  is the second novel of Abir Mukherjee published by Frog Books. The author was born & brought up in a small town in West Bengal but currently is based in U.S.A as an IT professional. The best part about his work is he doesn’t want to be philosophical or anything but just wants to entertain readers.

The story is based on three protagonists Uday, Adhyayan & Rajasekaran who are employees infirms where they work continuously in the cut throat competitive environment but they have some dreams which demands sacrifice of all sorts & ofcourse hardwork & they’re ready to give their best shot to make their start up successful. But dreams can sometimes cost too much effecting professional as well as personal lives too. While their dream project “The Schoolyard” took a leap, an ambitious idea to improve it proves to be fatal for the group & pulled them apart. While Uday stayed with the project the other two drifted apart but when both of them got the news that he has been arrested by police both of them came running to help their buddy. But will they be able to prove Uday’s innocence?

What I liked about this book is the choice of appropriate words showcasing the vivid vocabulary of the author. Also the way the personal lives of the protagonists are written in sync with their professional lives is commendable. It surely deserves to be read..
