#BookReview ; #IAm16ICanRape by Kirtida Gautam

To destroy great EVIL, GOOD has to shed tears of blood.
Rudransh Kashyap is a self-made billionaire and man of high moral fiber. His life is shattered when he returns home one day to find that his prodigy, his 16-year-old grandson, Aarush, has been arrested and accused of a brutal gang rape. It is easy to say, “Kill the Rapist” but what if the accused is your child?
This case takes an unprecedented turn when Aarush’s identity is made public on social media. Rudransh finds himself living a nightmare as he fights against tremendous odds to get justice for Aarush, to save him and to bring him back home… But what if the unthinkable is true? Can Rudransh save his grandson, or will he end up fighting a different battle altogether?

Kirtida Gautam’s debut novel #IAm16ICanRape ‘s topic is self explanatory from the title itself but if I try to give a short intro to it then it is a story about how some convicts used to get away scot free after committing heinous crimes just because they weren’t ‘adults’.  The author is a clinical psychologist & she used her knowledge appropriately in the story to make the readers understand the otherwise difficult psychological parts easily.

As I picked up #IAm16ICanRape I was a little sceptical about finishing it since I seldom read such long books also I was worried that the plot will start to stretch & ultimately I would lose interest but the way it has been compiled won’t let you wander. There are very few but strong characters in this book which allowed the plot to be closely knitted. For me the protagonist of the story is Dr. Rudransh Kashyap AKA RK Ji he owns chain of coaching institutes called RK-JEE, a person who is an idealist & rationalist, then there is Aarush Kashyap his grandson a genius boy but with attitude problems & Shubhangi  Tyagi a working woman with a never die attitude trying to recover from a painful breakup. There are other characters too in the story who also give as much soul to the book as they have. While RK Ji might be a rationalist but when it comes to his grandson Aarush he gets soft, so when Aarush is accused of raping someone will he do what his heart says or his morality will prove him to be a better human?  Read it know what it holds..

When I finished reading this book I was actually surprised at the fact that it is a DEBUT work of the author! THIS is the kind of book which we need to read & encourage others to do the same. It will touch your soul & make you question the ethics of society & laws. BUY IT NOW!!!

AN EXCERPT - FROM LIVING WITH FIRE

Joshua was gaping at her, his mouth opening and closing silently like a fish out of water. There was a sudden increase in icy coldness, and he froze into a statue, his face now expressionless and his eyes drawn and unfathomable as always when he was deeply distressed or too emotional for his own good. “Can you hear yourself? You sound like some fatalistic, maniacal sect member or the leader of a dangerously foolish occult movement,” he said with that unnerving, neutral calm of his. To cover up the disappointment and hurt and anger at his reaction, Felicia threw her head back and laughed coldly, mirthlessly. She tossed her hair over one shoulder, stood up straight and stared into his eyes. “Thanks for the suggestion. I think I’d rather like that. An occult movement revolving around the power of fire. I’ll be the terrifying fire goddess ruling mercilessly, with everyone falling at their feet and offering me their heart on a platter. I’ll make the world burn until it puts the sun to shame. Want to stick around and watch, snowman?” As soon as the words had left her mouth, she wanted to take them back. What had she just said? This wasn’t her, this wasn’t normal, this wasn’t right! This was her Joshua she was wounding and repelling…and yet, she would not take the words back. Didn’t she have every right to behave like this? The choice is yours. Rise and shine. Go out and rule! The voice inside her mind was so powerful she half thought she had spoken the words out loud. Beside her, Kyle was cackling and clapping his hands, and her fire dragon was turning cartwheels a little ahead. There was so much heat around her, inside her. It needed out.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Almost as soon as Devika Fernando could write, she imagined stories and poems. After finishing her education in Germany and returning to her roots in Sri Lanka, she got a chance to turn her passion into her profession. Having lived in Germany and in Sri Lanka with her husband has made her experience the best (and the worst) of two totally different worlds - something that influences her writing. Her trademark is writing sweet and sensual, deeply emotional romance stories where the characters actually fall in love instead of merely falling in lust.

What she loves most about being an author is the chance to create new worlds and send her protagonists on a journey full of ups and downs that will leave them changed. She draws inspiration from everyone and everything in life. Besides being a romance novel author, Devika is a faithful servant to all the cats and dogs she has adopted. When she's not writing, she's reading or thinking about writing.

#BookReview ; The Bestseller She Wrote by Ravi Subramanian

Paperback king, Aditya Kapoor’s life is straight out of a modern man’s fantasy. His literary stardom is perfectly balanced by a loving wife and a spectacular career. With everything he touches turning to gold, Aditya is on a winning streak.
Shreya Kaushik is a student with a heart full of ambition. Young, beautiful, and reckless, Shreya speaks her mind and obsessively chases after what she wants. And what she wants is to be a bestselling author.
What happens when their worlds collide? Is it possible to love two people at the same time? Can real ambition come in the way of blind passion? Can trust once broken, be regained?
Master storyteller Ravi Subramanian, delves into the glitzy world of bestsellers and uncovers a risky dalliance between a superstar novelist and his alluring protégé.
The Bestseller She Wrote is a combustible cocktail of love, betrayal and redemption.

The Bestseller She Wrote is the first romantic genre book by Ravi Subramanian who usually has written some exceptionally brilliant banking based thrillers & since he is a banker himself he knows his stuff but I was sceptical when I came across this book, can he REALLY pull off a romantic novel? I will answer this at the end of the review *trying to be a little mysterious*.

There 2 main characters in this book, Aditya Kapoor & Shreya Kaushik. Their introduction is as follows, Aditya Kapoor is a successful banker, a paperback king but also a loving father & husband while Shreya Kaushik is a young student who is never afraid to speak up her mind & also the kind of person who will chase her dreams & her dream is to be a bestselling writer. Their sudden interaction takes place when Aditya Kapoor is invited to give a speech to the young minds at IIM Bangalore where he studied himself, he is interrupted by Shreya when he stated novel as a ‘product’ since according to him it needs very detailed marketing & PR activity just like other commodities but on the contrary she is puts up a passionate view point about novels being a part of author’s soul which didn’t stumbled him at all. This being their first interaction no one can ever guess that this book is going to be a romantic one but tables turned when Shreya wrote back to Aditya after reading his books, the excitement & admiration in her words made him go weak & ultimately he falls for her. He got her selected from campus & even got her assigned to him which wasn’t difficult at all since the HR Head of his bank was his best friend.

Aditya also forms an extra marital relationship with Shreya & helps her to approach a publisher since her work is endorsed by someone of his stature the publisher readily agrees. But when Aditya’s wife suddenly gets sick & is on her deathbed he feels guilty of committing adultery & is adamant about setting things the way they should be. But will it be so easy to undo what has been already done? And will Shreya’s book get published & be a bestseller? Buy it to know the answers!! ;)

What I love about this book is the way it’s written, the way Ravi Subramanian used simple language to write such a beautiful novel is just mind blowing! It’s so easy to make a connection with the story *except the adultery part :p * that after some time you might even think that it’s happening in front of you. Even the characters are so believable that you won’t think of them as fictitious characters.

This book is of 300+ pages & god only knows that I am a slow reader but I did finished this one in record time, so to answer the question in the first paragraph Ravi Subramanian did an amazing writing a romantic novel but I would also like to add that I would have loved it even more if I would’ve found the romantic portion a bit more.

Meet Sundari Venkatraman

Growing up on a heavy dose of fairy tales and comic books, Sundari fell in love with the ‘lived happily ever after’ syndrome. It was always about good triumphing over evil and a happy end.

Soon, into her teens, Sundari graduated to Mills & Boon romances. And that got her thinking – how about such breezy romances in Indian settings? Her imagination took flight and she always lived in a rosy cocoon of romance over the years.

Then came the writing – a true bolt out of the blue! Sundari had just quit her job as a school admin and was taking a break. She was saturated with reading books. That’s when she returned home one evening after her walk, took some sheets of paper and began writing. It was like watching a movie that was running in her head – all those years of visualising a perfect Indian romance had to be put into words. The dormant romantic storyteller in her finally found its calling and The Malhotra Bride was born. While she felt disheartened when publishing didn’t happen, it was her husband who encouraged her to keep writing.

In the meanwhile, she landed a job as copy editor with Mumbai Mirror. After working there for two years, she moved to the Network 18 Group and worked with two of their websites over the next six years, as content editor.

Despite her work schedule, she continued writing novels and short stories and had them published in her blogs. She also started blogging voraciously, writing on many different topics – travel, book reviews, film reviews, restaurant reviews, spirituality, alternative health and more.

Her first eBook Double Jeopardy – a romance novella – was published by Indireads and has been very well received by readers of romance.

In 2014, Sundari published The Malhotra Bride (2nd Edition); Meghna; The Runaway Bridegroom; Flaming Sun Collection 1: Happily Ever Afters From India (Box Set) and Matches Made In Heaven (a collection of romantic short stories) in form of ebooks.
