#BookReview : Sin Is The New Love by Abir Mukherjee

Ahi is an aspiring publisher and wishes to make it big someday. When her favourite author’s autobiography lands on her table – which has confessions of his heinous crimes, illegal businesses and few eminent others as his partners in crime – she doesn’t know if it’s real or someone’s trap. It could get her a big breakthrough, but little does she know that it would turn her world upside down completely.
Her morbid curiosity pulls her into the depth of a conspiracy. She finds herself in the centre of various mishaps and murders, as if someone wants to lead the way. Driven by her childhood friend Samim’s encouragement, and watched over by the ever so charming ACP Rathore, she has to jeopardize her life to find the brutal truth of her past.

Touching, thrilling and deeply mysterious, Sin is the New Love is the journey of a girl who stumbles upon the truth about her origin while chasing her dream.

Sin is the New Love is a fictional thriller written by Abir Mukherjee & has been published by Srishti Publishers. The author was born & brought up in Bardhaman, a small town in West Bengal. He is currently based in Bangalore, working for more than 10 years as an IT professional. This is his third novel after As Life Has No Undo & S.O.A.R. – Success Over Adversity Reigns! He loves to sketch & write in his spare time.

The story revolves around our protagonist Ahi, a free spirited girl from Calcutta & daughter of DGP Dhritiman Chatterjee who just wants her new publishing company to shine. Suddenly she anonymously receives a manuscript which seems to be the autobiography of Late Devang Awasthi, a very famous author as well as doctor. The details in that manuscript is explosive & without even thinking for a second Ahi wants to publish it but she needs the permission of Devang’s any immediate relatives hence she travels to Delhi to get a sign. ACP Rathore befriends her & asks to help him prove that the late author was indeed murdered.  But she understood in a moment that it isn’t as easy as it seems as she meets the second wife & son of Devang. As she reads more of the manuscript, she finds herself entangled in a deeper mystery. Get this book here to jump into a mystery you’ve never read before,
According to me thriller is one of the most difficult genre to write in as the author can’t lose the focus of the reader for even a second & this book has almost achieved that for sure. I have read this author’s work before too & I liked it even then hence I was hoping this one to be a hit too. The story’s pace is maintained, the thriller essence has been used well & the characters have been etched well though in one case the character was abruptly discarded. The editing could’ve been better & also a small but important critique that the usage of pronoun for the transgender character is incorrect. The language is simple with some not so common words which help the reader increase their vocabulary, the title could’ve been better while the cover is unimpressive. A swift racy read, not to be missed.
